Journalling about personal values

In the corporate world, we are all by heart aware of the values and expectations set by the organizations we work for aren't we? Companies have mission statements and core values that employees are expected to embody and reflect in their daily professional actions.

But what about our own personal values? How often do we reflect on our OWN values and principles, and whether our actions and decisions align with them?

It is essential to invest as much effort in discovering and understanding our personal values as we do in aligning with the values of the organizations we work for. These values are the guiding principles that influence our behavior and decision making processes.

Once we have identified our personal values, the next challenge is to evaluate whether we live in accordance with them. It might be helpful to ask ourselves a few questions such as;

  • Are our daily actions a true reflection of what we believe our values are?

  • Are we making decisions that align with these values?

  • Or are we unconsciously adapting to societal expectations and the pressures of our environment, letting them dictate our choices?

Living in alignment with personal values in a corporate environment often requires a delicate balance. There may be times when our personal values conflict with the expectations of our company or society. It is important to navigate these situations thoughtfully and consciously.

In a nutshell, genuine fulfilment and personal satisfaction arise from living in harmony with our own values rather than solely conforming to external expectations. By consciously reflecting on and prioritising our personal values, we can lead lives that are both "professionally successful" and "personally meaningful".

Don't you think it's worth taking the time to sit back and think about what our personal values are?
